I have been to Wafu (located beside Gloria Maris in Greenhills) before, where we ordered the Ala Carte style, but this time we went for the “Eat All You Can Teppanyaki” package for 800php per person. So what was the verdict? It was really good!
You can see in my title that I made special mention to “Chawanmushi”. I absolutely love eggs and dishes that has egg in it or with it. But there are two Japanese egg dishes that I really really like: Tamago Sashimi and Chawanmushi. In Japan, the Chawanmushi is a hot appetizer, it is a savory egg custard. the word literally means steamed tea cup (chawan – tea cup, mushi – steamed).
And the Chawanmushi that they served was excellent! I have tried a lot of Chawanmushi, but the one that they served was really flavorful, a bit on the sweet side but everything that you expect in a Chawanmushi is there, the right consistency in the way the egg was steamed/cooked and the ingredients in it – mainly shrimp, mushroom and a bit of pork or sometimes they even add a little octopus. I will give their Chawanmushi a rating of 10 out of 10!
What else was included in the package, aside from the grilled items, they also served us miso soup, fried agedashi tofu and iced tea.
Next, I will go into the grilled/ teppanyaki sets that we ordered. First was the meat – US Beef Hanging Tender, Beef Tenderloin, US flat iron steak, US Gyuniku and Buta shogayaki (pork).
The meat were all cooked well! yummy! I will give it a 9 out of 10. We had an array of sauce to choose from. The left most was for the meat, the middle was for seafood and the right most was for the vegetable dishes.
After the meat course, the chef cooked the carbs – The Yakisoba. It was cooked with a mix of the udon and the vermicelli noodle. I would rate it an 8 out of 10.
Next we were served with the seafood – Blue Marlin, Salmon and some clams. Unfortunately they ran out of oysters – which is one of my favorite seafood. I would rate the seafood set also an 8 out of 10.
After that, the chef grilled the vegetables – Zucchini and mushrooms. Love this combo and both very healthy, i’ll rate it a 9 out of 10.
Last but certainly not the least, was the Okonomiyaki. This is a popular dish in Japan where they put in whatever ingredients they like. “Okonomi” literally means “whatever you like”. The dish is typically a pan fried food consisting of batter (which is also used in takoyaki) with cabbage and sometimes other toppings that the chef puts in. It was drizzled with Japanese mayo on top. It was good, i will give it a rating of 8.5 out of 10.
Since it was eat-all -you-can, we had second rounds of the meat variety. It’s the carnivore within us. Hahaha! We just wanted to get our money’s worth also and plus it was good.
All in all, I would definitely comeback for their teppanyaki. 🙂 I was with my “Friday Chicks” group although we went there on a Saturday! And the group has actually expanded to include the girls’ respective boyfriends.
Ttyl,
