Discovering “Flavours” by Chef Fham

For the Christmas Party that I organized for my dgroup (church friends), we were supposed to hold it at Nomnom Happy Food. But since they were booked, I decided to try the relatively new restaurant “Flavours by Chef Fham” located at the 3rd Floor of POS Bldg in front of Il Terazzo in Tomas. Morato.  The Chef – Fham was there and so I got to ask her about the menu – she said that she wanted to cater to people who are dynamic and constantly looking for new things to try, that’s why her menu will change every now and then to add new dishes which is quite an effort I must say!

One of the most recommended is the “Ben’s Egg and Longanisa” (230 php) – this is a spin on the traditional Eggs Benedict, it has poached egg with sautéed spinach and mushroom with their home-made longanisa topped with chili citrus hollandaise sauce on freshly baked English muffins. The pinoy twist there is of course the longanisa topping instead of a Salmon/ham. I really loved this dish. The flavors were spot on, the spinach and mushroom with the egg was good combination with the longanisa. I would give this dish a 9 out of 10.

My friend Michelle ordered the “Mushroom and Bacon Soup” ( 150 php). This was really good too. The soup was rich and creamy.  I would rate this an 8.5 out of 10.

She also tried another best-seller, their  “Pasta Stroganoff” (220 php) this is a cream based linguine pasta with herbed chicken fillet and shiitake mushrooms. This was also creamy and very tasty because of the herbed chicken. I would rate this an 8.5 out of 10 as well.

Two of us also tried the  “Winter Salad” (210 php) – red and white cabbage, carrot, celery, red onion, green apple, almonds, mandarin orange and winter herbs in Eskimo dressing. This was the least favorite out of everything that we ordered. The salad was a bit bland and lacked dressing. I would give this a rating of 5 out of 10.

A crowd favorite is the famous Filipino breakfast tapa which we also ordered, The “Flavours’ Tapa” (260 php) – homemade beef sirloin tapa with 2 eggs, garlic rice and cucumber tomato salsa.  This is your typical breakfast tapa. I would rate this a 7.5 out of 10.

The restaurant gave us a free dessert. It was a freshly baked batch of brownies.

Overall verdict, “Flavours” offered good food at very affordable prices. I would definitely visit again especially to try out their new dishes that they will launch every so often. That’s what you call effort and a foodie!
