My good friend Sharina and I celebrated her birthday – buffet style! NIU was offering a discount for a person who is celebrating their birthday that month and the discount will depend on the age of the birthday celebrant. Since NIU is the new sensation in the buffet world, we decided to eat there on my friend’s birth month just last December. NIU is the fine dining offering of Vikings and it’s located at SM Aura, 5th floor. The rate is at around 1400 php per person.
I went first to my favorite station of the buffet and that is the Japanese station. Got myself some salmon sashimi and a couple of sushi. My favorite “Tamago sashimi” for some reason is always missing in buffets. This is how my plate looked like (Round 1):
Next, I went to the get myself some dimsum and hot pot at the Chinese station. This is how my plate looked for Round 2:
And of course, I got myself the more expensive food such as the steak and the beef medallion. The beef medallion was excellent!
Don’t forget the Foie Gras! This was cut in small portions and it was also delicious.
I tasted something new at Niu – this Danish Pesto Cheese. You can sure taste the pesto and it is a bit on the salty side.
Had a grilled lamb kofta and some baked oysters before my dessert feasting.
Since I was full I just got a bit of coffee gelato, the blueberry cheesecake and the egg pie. The egg pie was too sweet and was not that good. This was how their dessert stations looked:
The drink options had a lot of variety, they had different juices, fresh fruit shakes, wines, and even cocktail mixes. I just tried their juices and red wine.
They gave my friend a birthday cake, and also for the other celebrants! The pianist was playing the Happy Birthday song.
What is the overall verdict? It was good. I will give it a rating of 7.5 out of 10. I think value for money is okay. It’s certainly not cheap but since they were offering food that can be found in a fine dining restaurant / hotel, then the rate is good already. More so if you get the expensive food choices. But i don’t think my stomach is cut out for buffets, but I’ll try them once in awhile. Will I go back there again? Maybe, if someone treats me! 🙂
