It’s been awhile since we had a family reunion. We only see the entire clan if there’s a major celebration, like a wedding or a First birthday party. A family reunion at the start of the year is a great way to welcome 2015! We ate at Edsa Shangrila’s Hotel’s Chinese restaurant called “Summer Palace”.
The feasting and catching up with my family relatives started alongside with our appetizer of “Soft Shell Crab with Pork Floss, Prawns in wasabi sauce and Avocado Salad Roll” It was not your traditional Chinese appetizer which is why I liked it, on the other hand it was not the best out of the menu. It needed more flavor. I would rate this a 7 out of 10.
Next dish is the soup: “Braised Four Treasure Soup chef’s style” this soup was really good, it had a depth of flavors from the braised elements. I would rate this an 8 out of 10.
The mains were the following:
“Baked Fresh Scallop topped on home made Tofu in Special Sauce” – this is one of my two favorite dishes served. I would rate this dish 9 out of 10.
“Pan-fried Codfish fillet in Apple Fruit Sauce” – this is the second favorite dish. I would also rate this a 9 out of 10.
“Money Bag” – this is my least favorite dish, it’s minced pork with some veggies in a wanton wrapper tied with a vegetable string but the flavor was bland. I would rate this a 6.5 out of 10.
“Pan-fried Beef Steak with Black Pepper Sauce” – this was so-so, I just liked it that the beef was soft. I would rate this a 7 out of 10.
“Waxed Meat Fried Rice” – I only tasted one spoonful because I was already full but it was good. I would rate this an 8 out of 10.
“Lamien Noodles with Seafood” – this was good, I would rate this a 7.5 out of 10.
I absolutely loved the two desserts we’ve had:
“Chilled Lemongrass jelly with Sherbet” – love this combo, the sherbet is a bit sour and the lemongrass jelly is a bit sweet but keeping the lemongrass flavor to it. There is a balance to the sweet and sour palette. I would describe this as “refreshing”. I give this a rating of 9.5 out of 10.
“Egg Custard Bun” – this was good but very sinful the inside was just oozing with oil from the butter from the egg custard filling. I would rate this an 8.5 out of 10.
Overall verdict – I loved most of the dishes, after all it is fine dining Chinese cuisine. So for those Chinese food lovers, then you must try Summer Palace especially on special occasions since it’s a bit more expensive than your usual Chinese restaurant. I think I’ll be coming back for more family events here. 🙂
