For our Christmas dinner get together with my former co-management trainees from Philam Life, we went to eat at “La Nuova Pasteleria” located at San Antonio Plaza in McKinley road. It is a quaint little place and the seating capacity is good for only 30-35 people. This restaurant is a personal favorite of one of my colleagues which makes it more a must-try. As the restaurant’s name represents – it is Italian and specializes on “pastry-making”.
Hence, we tried their pizza and pasta!
I’ll start with my favorite, not to be biased but I simply love anything that has a “truffle” flavor to it. I like it even more when the seasoning of truffle is just right to accentuate the dish, which is what I found in their “Tartufo” pasta. It is a tagliatelle pasta (flat noodle type) with white truffle cream sauce with porcini mushroom and topped with parma ham. I will give it a 9.5 out of 10.
Next is my friend’s favorite, the “Vongole” pasta. Spaghetti with baby clams, olive oil and white wine sauce. This is good too, I will give it an 8 out of 10.
Next is the Aglio Olio Con Gamberi, another oil-based pasta with a hint of spice to it. Capellini with garlic, sundried tomato, shrimps and chili flakes in olive oil. I will give this a rating of 8.5 out of 10.
Of course, we also tried a tomato-based pasta. The “Pescatore e Salsa Pomodoro” – spaghetti with seafood in tomato sauce. This is their version of a seafood marinara (as called in other restaurants). This is the least of my favorite because the flavor of the sauce was somewhat lacking in what I would like to taste in a tomato based sauce. I would give it a 6 out of 10.
We also tried their best-selling “Spinach Pizza”. The spinach and cheese were overflowing and it was good. I will give this a 9 out of 10.
Over-all it is a good Italian restaurant, it is a bit pricey though. The price range for the pasta is at 500++. That’s the only complaint I have! haha I also liked their appetizer, freshly baked flat bread (like a pita) with liver pate and sliced tomatoes. It is simply delizioso – italian for delicious! Next time I will try their risotto.
